Power Steering cylinders on a MF 253

I think it was a huge mistake for MF to eliminate tie rods and depend entirely on hydraulics to steer their tractors. My 253 now won't steer at all.
I installed a brand new pump and a brand new motor in the steering column and changed all the lines. Still won't steer unless the front end is
jacked up off the ground. Right now I'm suspecting that one or both of the cylinders up front is the culprit inasmuch as both are leaking. The fluid
must be getting past the seals. So, I either have to buy rebuild kits at about $20 each or brand new cylinders for about $160 each. I was wondering
if any of you have any experience rebuilding these cylinders, and whether the rebuild kit made them good as new again. I'd appreciate some advice if
you have.
