How do you turn over MF85 by hand

I just installed and torqued down my rebuilt head on my MF85. Now I want to move the cylinders to the compression stroke so I can set the valve clearances. My problem is I can't figure out how to turn the engine over without using the starter. Is there a method for easily turning the engine by hand?

Remove the starter and use a pry bar through the hole. Or if it has a plate on the bottom where you can see the flywheel you can do it there.

don't you have a hex nut on the crankshaft? please post picture of what you have. I have always turned crank with large box-end wrench with plugs removed of course. Removing starter as others have stated would be my last resort.
