My neighbors and I went and Looked at a Super 90 For Sale the other day. The owner said it was approx. early sixties. The 4 cyl. Perkins started up and run real strong but the PTO will not disengage and the power steering is real crappy. The guy is selling it for $2900. Wondering how hard a job it is to repair the PTO problem and the steering? Also 3 point is is real slow. Fluid is hydraulic was really milky white too. Stay away or buy and Repair as needed??

It MAY need a new power steering pump, that MAY fix both steering and PTO trouble. The return power steering oil is used to supply the PTO valve and clutch pack, a worn pump will affect both steering and PTO. Tractor originally used type A red oil, trans/hydraulic oil is OK to use though. Be sitting down when you price the steering pump, not a low cost part. If the tractor is eight speed WITHOUT the Multi-Power option, might be an OK but. I'd stay away from the sixteen speed MP transmission..

I think my neighbor has decided to stay away but i'll tell him about the PS pump maybe causing pto problem. The tractor had a three speed tranny with High/Low.

What about the slow 3 point? Could that just be the milky fluid?

Super 90 was built from 59 to 65. Your milky oil is most likely from poor gear shift boots allowing water into the
transmission oil. Can you stop the PTO shaft with a wood 2x4....be very careful. If the PTO will stop....it is most likely a
weak Brake spring...if the pto is going full power, and will NOT stop with the 2x4....the valve button may just be stuck. I
fixed two 90s with both these problems this winter. You will have to split the tractor at the gear shifters and rear PTO cover
to fix if these are the problems?
Like diesel said....if you need a PS pump, it will cost more than what you are looking to pay....however, you may be able to
get by with just the seal kit. Most times when the oil gets contaminated with water....it will damage the PS pump seals.
I have 9 super 90s here...all running, and they are great little tractors....but like all tractors you need to keep them up.
For the cost of two $8.00 gear shift boots....there could be some dollars to fix it up.
Where are you located? is the $2900.00 USD?

If it is a three speed tranny with high low....it shouldnt be a Super 90? 90 has 4 gears and reverse with high/low. Possibly
an 88 or 85?

All we know is what the owner said about being a super 90. There was no visible model/serial plate. Definitely was a high/low 3 speed

We did not try stopping the PTO when running but there was grinding when we operated the pto lever on the side

Located in Oregon hymie...2900 was USD

I dont know what 90s go for in your area. I am in Saskatchewan Canada. A 90 in the condition that you describe...I would only
pay maybe $1500.00 Canadian. If you can do the work yourself, and the problems you describe are relatively minor....it may be worth
the $2900.00, but if you do need a new PS Pump....it will cost about $1000.00 USD and I may be low at that.

(quoted from post at 19:20:05 05/10/18) All 85, 88, and S90 MAIN transmissions are four speed, shift lever needs lifted, then right and down for fourth..

Didn't try lifting the shift lever so it probably is a 4 speed. I emailed all this great info to my neighbor and haven't heard back yet from him

(quoted from post at 18:43:29 05/10/18) Were the wheel fenders rounded or straight?
