Do you know anyone with a wood lathe? I had one turned out from a block of hardwood.

Wood, plastic, or aluminum work well for centering pilots on single disc clutches. If two discs remember BOTH disc splines must be aligned before the input shaft will enter as it should. Brother ran into that with dad's 1100 this spring, he "thought" he could eye ball them close enough. Told him it would never go together UNTIL the correct spline tool was used, no mater how hard he tried without it. Finally borrowed the splined pilot tool, tractor went right together after that with no trouble..

Oh, man, you brought back memories.
35 years ago, my two brothers and I installed a dual-disc clutch on a New Holland combine. I remember that it was close to the ground between the two drive tires. One brother blew-up with a mouthful of cuss words and left. My other brother and I didn't give up and we finished it, but it awhile. He couldn't give up because it was his combine.

I used a broom handle and turned it against a bench grinder, worked fine.

A stack of sockets and flat washers bolted together can work too.
