Finished and outside

Finished and outside! Well nearly - just some bolts to re-torque, loader hydraulics to pressure test, nothing major. And what's that on the back? That's my next project - a New Holland 445E sickle bar mower - IMHO the pinnacle of evolution of this style of machine before they were completely swept away almost overnight (at least in the UK) by the advent of disc/drum mowers. This combination, with me on board, cut many
hundreds of acres of hay in the 1970s and 1980s. The 445E is still in good mechanical condition, but needs a rub down and a coat of paint - I think the decals will have to be custom made, though, unless anyone knows better?

Hello Jim,
Your 135 looks superb. What make is the rollbar? Most with that profile seem to be fitted to Kubotas and the like. The 445E was undoubtedly the best cutterbar mower that I ever had. Beautifully smooth in operation with its 'wobble' drive mechanism. As you have correctly said, they were swept away by the advent of the rotaries. In our case a MF 51 disc mower replaced it and then we moved on to a PZ CM165. Several years ago I fully refurbished a MF 60 mowe. It looked superb on my also refurb 165. Have just sold the mower to a friend to display on his 135 or one of his 3 35s.

Man...wouldn't OSHA have a field day with that pointy belty scary looking thing on the back?

Thanks, David. Yes. I'm pretty pleased with how the tractor has turned out - a bit of head scratching from time to time along the way, and some superb paintwork from ColourWorks here in the Borders! I went on to a CM 135 mower after the New Holland!
The ROPS came from Silver Fox Tractor Spares Ltd. Don't know the manufacturer but it seems a very substantial and well made piece of kit, and comes with the relevant safety certificates. For your interest, here's the link to their listing.

Very nice set up. I've used MF 31 for years, still use it for Orchardgrass hay. The MF 31 and 41 also excellent mowers, curious if they were popular in the UK. Cheers
