Hi all,
I know lots of people ask about what plow their tractor's capable of pulling, and there's no real answer as it all depends on terrain, soil condition &c., but I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me make a decision.
I've been looking to find a 4 furrow trail plow for my MH 555. Not to do a lot of work with, but I'd like to plow 7-10 acres a year just for giggles. I've been looking for an Oliver plow, as I've always thought they made the best old plows. Recently two plows have come up for sale near me. One's an Oliver 4-furrow, 14 inch bottom, truss frame in reasonable shape, and the other's an Oliver 4441 5-furrow, 16 inch in slightly better shape. The last board on the 4441 is an add-on extension and easily dropped off to turn back into a 4 furrow. The ground I have is quite sandy. No really steep hills around my place, but there are lots of long, low-sloped fields. Both plows are the same price.
The 4441 is a newer plow in better shape, but I'm concerned the 16" bottoms and heavier frame might be a bit much for the 555 to handle. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
