engine studs no good TO35

Hi, All,

cant get the double ender studs out of the old cracked block and they are corroded anyway. The short 7/16 studs are easy to buy but the 10 long ones I cant find; and reason
not to substitute grade 8 cap screws for the long studs?

thanks

BIll

I prefer studs to cap screws, but some lengths can be hard to source. Locate some Grade 8 bolts a little longer than you need, and have your friendly neighbourhood machinist turn off the heads, and re-thread the turned ends to the needed length and threads. It shouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and will give you a stud that is factory equivalent or better. unc

Sorry, forgot to add, the re-threading must be done on a lathe. A die won't work without the bolt shanks being turned down. Does your local high school have a machine shop? This project would be perfect for students. unc

My late brother was a Master Machinist.........had him machine GRADE 8 BOLTS (TEA-20)to length. Machined THREADS while in Lathe as per require:

Bob......MF FE 35 X & TEA-20

give ARP a call. You might be surprised at what they stock. They were able to put together a bolt kit for my continental and shipped it out the next day.
