mf 165 electronic ignition conversion

I got a points conversion and cant get it to start now. It is an A and I conversion. I did crack the magnet ring when I put it in because I did not have it lined up correctly. If I put the magnet on flat steel it the magnets still stop it at the same 4 places when you roll it. I would think even if I messed up one of them it would still start. I set the timing to 12 deg when spinning with the starter. the timing light does flash as I would expect seems even with the timing mark on every revolution.
I set the timing to 12 then set the mark on the crank on it and pulled the cap it appeared to be half way in between the tower that would seem to be a problem but it must still be sparking at the right time since the timing marks light up when spinning.

I was able confirm it was not made right. I set the timing again with the starter and light then rotated the engine to the mark took the cap off and sure enough the rotor was half way inbetween the post. I found a picture of one and compared sure enough the sensor is in a different spot on the plate. It would not matter if it was 25 deg off but this is half that off.

I've run into that, as well, a mis-match between the EI unit and the distributor, or possibly the incorrect cap for the application/distributor.

Just another case of "If It Ain't Broke We'll Fix It 'Til It Is" with a %$@^ aftermarket EI unit.
