Massey 231 died on me

Hey my 231 died on me while I was making a food plot couple weeks ago I changed fuel filter. I put probably 5-10 hrs on her since change . After she died I tried restarting till battery wouldn't start . Next day I brought my battery handheld jumper tried pumping fuel manually after a couple cranks she started rt up . Drove maybe 20 yards she lost power and died just same as day before once I get her started she idle and runs fine then all of sudden loses everything . I ordered a lift pump and gonna try that , when installing fuel lift pump do u have to reprise the whole fuel system just like a filter change ? Any ideas on what is causing this . I've gotten started several times and each time she loses power quicker and quicker I can't even move her now after she starts ?[/list]

Are you certain there is no air in fuel
system? I'd repeat bleeding process first.
It's common to have air not 100% bled and
these problems after filter change.

no I'm not certain I'm not very mechanically inclined when it come to diesels . I'll definitely try rebleeding system when new lift pump arrives I'm hoping that's all it is .

What brand fuel filter? If NAPA/WIX brand, did you make the common mistake of putting an O ring in the top outer groove? That's the fuel inlet, and MUST be open. Lots of service calls to correct that mistake.

i did not think about this I used the Napa filter, will it still run after a couple of hours after the improper install? Thanks for the advice this is a good starting point !

If engine has no load, it MIGHT run fine, then die with a load on. I've also seen engines that would not even bleed and start with the filter groove blocked..

Awesome thanks for advice Im gonna check this for sure Ive only ran about 5 hrs roughly after filter change so hoping this is problem .
