MF50 with Z134 no spark

Have a 1963 MF 50 with a Continental Z134. Was running well last fall but battery went dead after sitting awhile. Pulled battery out and charged it. Hooked battery back up and when I turned the ignition key nothing. Was a very old battery so had it tested at Autozone - their verdict was bad battery, so I replaced the battery. Now the engine turns over but won't start. I don't think I have any spark.

I am not much of a mechanic so would love some help for next steps in trouble shooting. I pulled the center lead from coil and held close to block and see no spark when I crank the engine. How do I determine if I am getting power at the coil?

How do I test the ignition switch?

Any other ideas?
Thanks

"How do I determine if I am getting power at the coil?" Use a volt meter. Input to the coil should be near battery voltage with points open. With points closed coil input should be slightly less than battery voltage. If you have a resistor in the wire from switch to coil you should see about half battery voltage with points closed. Wire from coil to distributor should have near battery voltage with points open and near zero volts with points closed.

"How do I test the ignition switch?" Should be battery voltage at input. Switched output should be battery voltage with switch on, zero volts with switch off. If you have voltage to input of the coil your switch is working.

Common problem when engine sits for extended period of time is for points to get an invisible film on the contacts. Take a piece of paper grocery sack, or cardboard such as cereal box and pull it through the closed points. This often removes the corrosion and restores contact. Check that there weren't any fibers from the paper or cardboard that may have snagged on the contacts.

Also make sure the coil has voltage while the engine is cranking, sometimes a bad ignition switch will cut the battery power off to the coil when you turn the key to crank it over.

i use a cheap test light to check for current once the key switch to on. i check from back of ignition switch (where wires are hooked up) and follow every connection to distributer. where you go dark is your problem.
