Power Steering MF202 or MF35

Having trouble with my power steering pump. It's dumping a whole reservoir full of oil in a couple minutes engine running time.

It's a brand new pump so the seal before the drive gear should be good. The old pump leaked oil past the seal. So, I bought a new pump. It never did work quite right. Sketchy or jerky power steering. I can't find any leaks on the PS system. My engine oil seems like it's going up. But as I said that seal and pump are brand new.

Check the pictures below. You see the discharge from the bottom of the pump and you see where it hooks up to the steering. Are these hoses connected correctly?

(quoted from post at 14:52:58 03/19/18) I've gotten a few brand new parts over the years that were bad right out of box.

OK, I finally got the gear off the old Cessna pump. So, now how does that seal come out? Can I get it out from the front like that without taking anything else apart?

OK, I forgot the pic. Here's the pic of the seal and the parts breakdown. Can I just pry that old seal out with a pointy object?
Number 28 is the seal.

You can pry it out, might want to pop the key out of the keyway first. I took my pump apart to do it, no more leaking into the crank case. Now I've sprung a leak of under the battery area somewhere. Fun times.

Pump comes apart pretty easily if you can't pry it out. I actually shaved down my new seal just a bit so it would seat further down on the pump shaft. My pump shaft had a groove worn into it and I couldn't find a redi-sleeve small enough. It works fine if you're careful and get all the debris off the new seal.

I also used a touch of anaerobic gasket sealer on the outer ring of the gasket, though I probably didn't have to.

Not sure why this forum is so against being able to edit our own posts, but whatever...

Another note- I could not for the life of me get the locknut off the end of the shaft. I ended up splitting it with a chisel, getting a new nut and using a hammer, knocked it out of round to make my own lock nut. I also used threadlocker. I'd rather not hear the noises it would make if the gear came off the end.

Another note- the shaft is tapered, the gear is on there pretty darn good. It may take a bit of persuasion to get it off. Just be careful with it.

I had a small 3 jaw puller that fit on it pretty good. I put the puller on it and tightened as much as I could by hand. Sprayed some of that rust dissolver stuff on it and let it sit about five minutes. Then I took a small tack hammer and tapped on the puller stud a few times and the gear actually popped off.

I couldn't get that seal out by prying on it with the shaft in the way so I had to remove the front plate. I needed to use an electric impact driver to break those four long bolts loose. I was able to pry the seal out from the front then, without that shaft in the way. I'm wondering why those four long bolts were so tight? Should I maybe use some locktight when I put them back in?

Anyway I got a new seal ordered. Actually ordered a new gear retainer nut also.

Very nice!

A bit of Loctite wouldn't hurt, you definitely don't want those bolts loosening up on ya. I put a dab on mine when I put it back together, certainly won't hurt.

Is the pump drive/gear shaft scored on yours?

The shaft looks good, no scoring on it. What color lock tight did you use?
