Massey Ferguson 1010 Tachometer / Hour meter

Airborne

New User
I need a tachometer/hour meter cable for my 1982 1010. Its a very short cable, about 14-16 inches. All the ones I've seen on ebay and other parts websites are much longer. If a cable isn't available I would not have a problem mounting a new unit on the dash but the cable must be short because the engine end is right at the very end of the block. Suggestions anyone.

If the cable itself is broke and the outer sheath is still ok auto parts stores have cable kits that you cut to length and crimp on the end.

Thanks for that info. I did a search and found something that might work. The 1010 tractor is in very good shape to be as old as it is. No blue/gray exhaust smoke. I did change the oil and filter. I researched oil type and change intervals and came to the conclusion that its really a personal choice on oil brands, weight, etc. etc. I selected Rotella 30W. Anyone please feel free to comment on oils as I am a firm believer in keeping it clean and fresh in all my vehicles. This is my first Diesel so I'm open to all comments and opinions on engine care especially. I haven't changed the fuel filter. Must first familiarize myself on how to "prime" it after installing a new one. Thoughts anyone?

Shell 15-40 Rotella is what I use in all my tractors gas or diesel. Even if you don't use that brand 15-40 is what just about what everyone uses.. As to bleeding filters usually you just change the filter and bleed the filter housing via the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing. Be sure you get only clear fuel out and no air before you tighten the bleeder up.

Sorry for the delay in responding. The cable is not fixable. I managed to get the cable out of the sheath but the sheath was so rotten it just came apart. I did order a short replacement but just not sure it will work. Arriving today. I have a questionable bucket cylinder that is showing sings of eminent failure. It has no part numbers on it and I have been unable to locate a parts list for the bucket assembly. Would prefer to replace with a new cylinder, but would consider a repair kit. Opinions on kits are welcome. Or a part number for a replacement cylinder.

Thanks Phil for the info on the 15-40 oil. I did another oil change and used the 15-40 Rotella and it really quieted the engine down. As for the fuel bleeding, there are 2 screws side by side on the outgoing side of the filter assembly. Are they both bleeders?
