245 trans/input seal

I am going to replace 245, 6 speed trans input seals, the engine out right now and thought I better replace the input seals and gaskets. It is my understanding that it's not a simple task. The repair manual I have does not state the actual seal replacement operation, just trans removal and disassembly, so not sure what all I need to do.

Here are the questions,
1. It seems the trans need to be pulled forward from the rear housing correct, if so just a couple inches or all the way out?
2. This is to allow the bottom pto shaft to drop back in trans to remove the input shaft right, if shaft drops is it easy to get back into place when done?
3. I could not find a thread on this particular subject, is there a write up or any tips/tricks before I dive in?

Hello,
Yes, you have it pretty much correct there. I would certainly suggest
that you get hold of a genuine MF manual. They contain a lot more
information about jobs like this.
