Leaking transmission seal

I have a diesel Super 90 and it looks like the front transmission seal is leaking (pretty bad now). Is it at all possible to replace this seal without splitting the tractor, or am I in for the thrill of my life?

Oops. I guess I should have mentioned that in the OP Wayne. No, my tractor does not have multi power. Standard clutch with independent PTO.

Will need a split for that. I'd remove the bottom plate first and look inside, leak could be from somewhere else. Be GLAD it's not the MP transmission if you need parts.

Thanks Dieseltech. I was certain I would but wanted a second opinion before I did. Once in a while a fellow gets lucky, but not this time. Oh well such is the life of an old tractor owner. :)

Ok...How much leakage do you have? A steady stream or a regular drip? What is the time between drips?
If you have lots of leakage, I would suspect a hydraulic hose in there has a small hole worn into it. Open the bottom inspection plate and see if you can identify where the leak is coming from. Probably will have to have the tractor running to see the leak. I am sure I dont have to tell you to not stick your hand up there when its running.
If you do find it is one of the hoses...the one on the right side (When sitting on tractor) can possibly be changed without splitting. I have done two with the MP version, but not a standard one. It is difficult but can be done.

Thanks Wayne. It seems to be leaking right at the front of the transmission. Come to think of it, I believe it is behind the power steering pump. Having had the power steering pump out before I seem to remember seeing a hydraulic line in the "tunnel". I hadn't thought of it, so I'm a little stoked to go find the leak. The inspection plate you speak of, is it one of the plates on the side, or is there one on the bottom?

And the leak isn't a steady pour, but a moderate drip. I haven't really timed it but next time I'm up at the farm I'll check it before I start the tractor and then watch for the leak while it's running. The hose that could possible be leaking, where does it go, or what does it supply hydraulic fluid to?

The inspection plate is the one on the bottom of the clutch housing (4 Bolts). I assume that the leak will be coming from a small V on the edge of the plate that allows excess oil to drain out rather than gathering in there and eventually soaking your clutch and ruining it.
If the leak isnt a steady stream, but a drip, it may be the front transmission seal, or a very small hole in one of the hoses.
The hoses supply oil to your power steering in front and returns back into the clutch housing to your PTO valve, and eventually goes to the back to supply oil to your PTO clutch pack. If you have an older 90 there may be a bypass hose in there with a relief valve too. On the newer 90s they put the relief valve in front of your radiator, on top, by the PS valve (U shaped pipe with valve).
The hydraulic line you have seen "in the tunnel" I should be the supply line that goes back to your PTO clutch pack. The leak should not be in there with your PS pump. The power steering pump is inside the oil reservoir, behind the front transmission seal that may be your problem. The transmission seal, if it is the problem, will be leaking oil forward into your clutch housing.
