Update on my new to me 35. I just drove it to the corner and back. The cotter pin in that break away coupler was gone. It let the coupler slide back and the high low gears move with it. I cleaned the watery oil out while I was in there and didn't find the old cotter pin. I wonder if it was left out. Thanks for all the help, I had about convinced myself that I would be splitting it. Next issue is the sticky lift arms. Piston moved with ease but the arms themselves needed to be driven down. I think if I attach some thing heavy and work it it should loosen up.

Don't you wish every problem was that easy to fix. If you still have the top off take one of those telescoping magnets and reach towards the back end of the case and you may find the cotter pin. I would drain all the oil and thoroughly check the whole case bottom. Too bad to start using it and have that cotter pin get into the gears. IMO

I fished around in there with the magnet and came up empty. I put the cover back on so all I can do now is hope for the best. I took a chance on this one and it looks like I got lucky. Not running and knowing it wouldn't move. I bought it and a TO 30 for $1200. I got the 30 running but it has a bad skip. I'm leaning towards a stuck or broken valve.

When I rebuilt the hydraulic pump on my 35 Utility I had to remove the PTO stub to get the pump out. I took that opportunity to clean out the differential casing. I had the main transmission case spotless. When I looked into the diff casing, there were chunks of metal from the original hydraulic pump, and about 3/4" of thick grease like sludge on the bottom.

Took me the better part of 3 hours to clean it out. It was a huge pain in the butt!
