timing TO-35

I just bought a 1955 TO35 and the timing is off. I have the number one piston in compression stroke but when I look in the
bell housing inspection hole you can't see the timing marks at all due to awkward position. The steering linkage arms are in
the way. Do I need an optical bore scope to look in that hole? Help, what is secret to see timing marks so that it can be set
to six degrees BTDC? I also posted this query on the Ferguson forum page.

Tip the front axle up/down as needed to see better in the timing hole. You should be able to see the lines on the flywheel and block pointer then with a good bright timing light. That's how I used to see them anyway..

Find the correct marks and line them up on the flywheel. Then take a paint pen and put a mark on the pulley so that it lines up with something easy to see. Use your timing light on the paint mark.
