How do I tell the difference between a Ferguson 35 and a MF
35. I haven't found a serial tag on it. It's painted red and
grey and has MF decals but has a Ferguson badge on the
grill. It's a newer paint job. I bought it today as a non
runner. I put a battery in it, cleaned up the points, and
put in a new condenser and it fired up. Even with the stale
gas. The lift works good. I believe it has a broken shift
fork on the high low lever. It won't move and lever doesn't
do anything other than the neutral safety switch. Is this
the same shift fork as a 65?

I think they used the Ferguson TO35 badges .... till they ran out of badges. Into 1959 or 60? Any badges on the side of the hood? I 'think' HF & MHF punched holes for the side emblems, but MF just used decals.... or that's the ones I ran across over the years. Richard and Miner can tell you the years of the different hood latches. So what you got to go by now is the casting dates. I will bet the decant ball is more the problem than the rod. We'll see huh?

The hi-lo shift fork is on the back side of the transmission planetary unit. Never saw one broke, but could be possible. What I have seen a few times is the planetary LO side internal gear drift back out of place, so when the fork moves the HI-LO sleeve rearward the external LO side teeth don't mesh. Also will keep the sleeve internal teeth from moving forward enough for HI range too. The internal gear teeth ring is pressed into the rear of the carrier, and staked in place. What I've done is pressed the ring back in place flush, then tack welded it after peening it some too.

I follow you. I wasn't thinking about that fork being on the back of the transmission. That lever behaves awfully funny. You have to hold it forward to get the neutral safety to engage and that's as far as the lever will move. The PO said he was brush hogging with it and it quit moving.

Hey Tony! No hood badges. No holes for hood badges on the
sides. Badges we don't need no badges. I guess I'll find out
more when I tear into it. It sounds like a rear split either
way. I also bought a TO 30 and some two bottom plows in the
deal. I got the 30 running but it has a skip which the PO
said. It has spark so I'm thinking stuck valve? That's a
question for another day. I'll try to get some pictures
after I dig them out. I just went and fixed the fire and
it's snowing like crazy.

my MF 35 has but one hood latch button. also has a Carter carb. 1960.
