Ice in hydralic case

I bought a MF 20 3 point non working. got it home and removed the inspection plates. found the ugliest oil ever. nice and milky with a layer of what looked like marshmallow fluff on top. I've drained the oil and found 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ice and slush in the case. have been trying to thaw and flush out the ice and sludge not easy to do this time of year in Northern Michigan. I've got most out flushing with diesel.

how likely is it that I change the filter and put in new oil and it works or do you think the ice will have screwed the pump?

Also have had suggestions of putting alcohol or HEET to absorb the remaining water. Thoughts on that?

Thanks

You can try the filter oil change, I would leave the pto side cover off, and put enough oil in so the oil level would be a inch or two below the pto cover then try it out. Put the tractor in neutral, lock the parking brake, and or block the wheels. Start it, and have some one work the 3 point controls while you look inside if the 3 point still won't work. Look at the hydraulic pump before putting the oil in, and look for anything cracked.

Bought a MF 65 last year that had been sitting outside for ? years. It had about 3 gallons of water in it but it was all settled out to the bottom. Drained out the water and the oil looked good. Started the tractor and the 3PH would do nothing. Took the top cover of drained the oil out and parts from the hydraulic pump ( a long coil spring and some small parts ) were laying in the bottom of the case. Bought a new pump on flea bay for $225 and everything works great now. The water froze in there and ruined the pump. Maybe you will be luckier than me.

Here are, a couple of pictures when a MF is left abandoned for several years...engine is started and all HELL breaks loose!

Possibly not from ICE, possibly the effects of water and ice at some time... RUSTED etc, etc:

Be very careful as this has happened to more than one unsuspecting owner:
