1973 1080 oil pump diesel engine

We removed oil pump to rep lace main bearings on crank. Ready to put oil pump back on,
does it need timed? Thank you.

Oil pump TO the balancer does not need timed BUT the balancer assembly the pump bolts to DOES need timed on installation TO the engine block..

Ok, i hate to sound stupid, but how do you do that?

The balancer weights turn opposite directions at twice crankshaft speed. There are marks on the idler and balancer drive gears, but not sure if they can be seen. With the crankshaft at TDC on pistons 1 and 4, install the balancer with the weights hanging down, centered. Turn the crankshaft 1/2 turn so pistons 2 and 3 are at TDC, balancer weights should be down, centered again.
