MF 165 PTO Rod

Does anyone know if there is a way I can tighten the PTO control rod? When I engage PTO or disengage, BTW I have the 3 phase PTO, Engine, Ground speed or neutral. The rod seems to have a lot of play. I am working on a MF 165 Diesel, 1974 model. Just to note, I am not talking about the clutch, I am talking about the actual rod to put the PTO in gear.

Thank You,
David

Most likely a well worn roll pin, and possibly the shaft and lever holes the pin goes through if a new pin does not tighten things up. May need drilled for a larger pin too.

Had the same problem with my 65 when I bought it. Previous owner had put a nail in the hole. I've seen this type of "improvised" repair on lots of machinery. A new roll pin and all is well..you nailed it again Dieseltech.

Hi, just to add a little to what has been said below; there is a limit as to how much you can increase the hole size in the spindle. Drilling out to 5/16" may be sufficient. If you are able to successfully drill both and fit a new roll pin, try and fit a second one inside to strengthen it. Having carried out this repair on a customer's tractor about two months ago I also wired the pin in place. When you refit the cover fit two opposing bolts and check that you can engage and disengage the PTO correctly.
