Mf35 Hydraulic problems

So I got this 1962 mf35 for free from a friend. It sat for 25 years but I got her running with a little work. All the hydraulics seemed to be working fine but wanted to change all the oils anyways. So today I changed the transmission, rear end and hydraulic oil (8 gallons of 90wt mineral oil). so after doing so I got her fired up and was adjusting the carburetor a bit and heard a loud pop and my implement hut the ground. Now nothing. But it seems it snapped a stud on the top cover. Not sure what happened since it was working before with nasty watery oil.

That bolt is one of the ones on the hydraulic lift cylinder. Whether something was out of adjustment or if the relief valve stuck would be hard to tell until the cover comes off. Either way the top has to come off. Good luck.

Pics. from a last summer ( 2017) Job on my MF 35....Hyd. pump replacement:

There are drive components that you probably / should (coupling) check as you are now up to your ears in ADVENTURE....:)

With top cover removed, Transmission in LOW Range and First Gear, Jack one rear wheel up and check for backlash in coupling as per pictures:

Components are expensive and difficult to obtain at times:

Well I jumped right into this morning and pulled the top off. Well there lies the problem.

With all do respect, what you have found is NOT the problem. What you have found is the after math of a problem or problems.

Faulty pressure Relief valve? Faulty sticking control linkages? Rusted not operating control linkages? Out of adjusted linkages?

You have been sent valuable info from YT contributors, it would pay you dividends to read each individuals input:

I have seen several individuals tackle the same adventure you are on with out a SERVICE MANUAL....only to fracture the top lift cover!

Bob.....

Get you the real, new shop manual, you can get them from AGCO http://www.agcopubs.com/ Don't buy the cheap one's that are copied from a AGCO original manual, the text, and pictures can be really bad on those.

P.S. Like Inno said, get a new pressure relief valve for the hydraulic pump also, they aren't very expensive.

That very same thing is one of the two reasons I got my 35 Utility for $1000. Pretty easy fix, just pay very, very close attention to properly setting the spring tensions/control levers.

I agree 100% with the others, replace the pressure relief valve. I ended up rebuilding my entire hydraulic pump while I had everything apart with brand new AGCO parts.

I also drilled out my cover and installed a newer style lift cylinder with larger studs. That [i:619caa0e47]probably[/i:619caa0e47] removes the fail-safe that you experienced and will likely cause the lift cover to be cracked if something was out of adjustment, but I spent a lot of time making sure I did it properly.
