I have a continental engine on my Massey that has bad water pump and leak on rear housing seal to engine. I removed the water pump and took the two nuts off that hold the rear housing on..this is what the water pump bolts to. Appears housing has something else holding it.. any idea what can be holding this from coming off?

What tractor/engine? If its the Z134 there are two short studs, and one longer stud that come through the rear housing. The long stud also comes through the pump, so if the pump is off that leaves the two short stud nuts. If those are off then there's probably rust buildup around the long studs inside the housing bore holding it on.

There is a gasket between housing and block. I'll look through my pictures that show
removal. The bolt at 8 o'clock is a stud. Most the time it has rust so just work it out slowly not to break housing.

Bolt at 8 o'clock is stud stay's in block the other two bolts( 1 & 5 o'clock) stay's in housing.

Just remove nut. It's a stud in block just work housing out. May have to soak with
brake fluid and let set overnight. That's what I do.
