MF 165 hydraulic problem

Repaired the broken piece on the hydraulic PTO clutch pack and PTO works great now.
The lift arms come up slow and don't lift as much as they should. Is there an adjustment or relief valve to check? Think it is a 1973 model.

Hello Richard,
Does your tractor have Pressure Control? If so there is an adjustment point that acts as the relief valve. It looks a bit like a top hat and is located inside the RH side cover but above the inspection hole. It has quite sharp lugs on it. This should be adjusted when the Pressure Control lever is set to minimum. A gauge should be used and the pressure set to 2500 to 2800 or 3000 if it is an upgraded model. Has this setting been changed?
If you do not have Pressure Control the possibilities are internal adjustment of other linkage components or wear or leaks. You have not mentioned any problem about the linkage going down when stopped so it would appear that the lift cylinder piston and rings are OK.

David, this tractor belongs to a young friend. I repaired broken parts on the hydraulic PTO clutch. I will have to ask about the pressure control.
My mother used to ride a bike all over Wales in the 1930's. She said she would grab hold of a lorry to pull her along sometimes.
She worked in the London Central Telephone Exchange during the war.
