I just gotta share about this about cold weather starting

Well I thought this was impressive. Had to swap one not running machine out of the shop to work on another not running machine, that’s another story.

Anyhow

We have a MF 135 12 volt setup on points not EI, and shell Rotella 15 W 40 oil in the crank, good fresh battery.

Standing temperature was 15 degrees Fahrenheit below zero, with the wind chill the weather service said it would feel like 30 to 40 below zero Fahrenheit.

Hit the switch and she fired right up no problem with only just a second or two of choke.

I thought that was awesome! I really expected a battle at that temperature.

In all honesty though I did use one little trick that I’m sure helped. The day before I disconnected the battery and brought it in the house to warm up and brought it out and connected it and cranked it as soon as connected to maximize my cranking amps.

Those MF135's are great. Got down to zero degrees F. here (-18 Celsius) the other night in SE PA. Went out to the barn in the morning just to see if it would start after not running my MF135 DIESEL since November. I keep a trickle charger on it. Same 15-40 oil as yours. No preheater, no ether, no glow plugs, and it started up after about 10 seconds of turning over and putting out some diesel smoke. It was about 3 degrees F. It turned over slow, but kicked right off and ran great. Now that is impressive!
