MF 165 Diesel charging circuit diagram

Hello all,
I have a 1965 Massey 165 diesel that I want to rewire the charging circuit, if possible.
It has the Delco 3 wire alternator, which I don't think is putting out the correct voltage/amps. Don't know, because the amp meter doesn't work. Reason being, MF put a pressure switch behind the oil pressure gauge for the amp meter and fuel gauge to run through after the engine starts, fuel gauge doesn't currently work either.
I had to replace the original ignition and went with a generic 4 position switch with ACC, Off, On, and Start.
My question is: can I bypass the pressure switch (mine is bad), and wire the amp meter and fuel gauge through the "on" terminal of the ignition switch. I have printed a copy of ptfarmer's 175 (I believe) diagram and it looks like mine.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Roger

Your Delco 3 wire alternator should be wired with a 10 or 12 gauge wire from big output stud on back of alternator to one side of amp meter, other side of amp meter to the starter solenoid/switch where the main battery connects. Ignition and light switches should power from the alternator side of the amp meter.

#2 pin on alternator edge connector can loop down to output of alternator or to any point on the wire to amp meter to battery connection at starter switch. This wire senses battery charge level.

#1 pin requires a momentary "excite" or start up voltage when engine first starts.

I'm guessing the oil pressure switch has nothing to do with amp meter but closes when oil pressure comes to to a set level and switches on power to #1 alternator and fuel gauge.

Use a test light or jumper across oil pressure switch to check it. Yes, you can connect alternator #1 and fuel gauge to on position of switch. On a diesel you do not need the diode or idiot light in the wire to #1 terminal.

Thanks for the reply. Currently the 10 gauge wire goes to the oil pressure switch and then over to the ammeter and fuel gauge. So rewiring it to the "on" position of the ignition switch should work as I had hoped it would.

Thanks again,
Roger
