MF204 revers O matic pump problem

Have a customer that bought this brand new and always had transmission issues. put a gauge on the trans pump and no oil pressure. Took the gauge off with the hose open no flow. Pulled the filter cleaned. tried again no flow. Split the tractor and the clutches look new. but the tang on the pump dive is chewed up. Bought a new oil pump and drive flange for the torque converter. Started to measure the engagement of the pump drive and it's only has .020 engagement. Not enough. Trying to figure a way of getting the torque converter closer to the trans without loosing the starter engagement. The torque needs to be moved in about .250. It's like the trans housing wasn't machine right at the factory. Anybody ever run into this?

Could you add some washers between the torque converter and the flywheel where the bolts pass through the converter?
Probably 2 on each would do the trick. Just make sure they are all the same thickness. Can't remember much about mine as it was a few years back when we had it split to rebuild motor.

The 204 used 3 different torque converters. Used Prior To Tractor Serial No. 342705

Tractor serial number 342705 to 343100

My service manual for my 50a talked about
adding shims between the faceplate and the
flywheel if the torque converter needed to
be moved closer to the transmission.

Is there anyway to tell which torque convertor I have. The serial on the machine is #343539. We thought about machining shims to bring the torque convertor closer to the pump, but we need .250, and then the starter will barely engage. Have considered tearing the trans down and putting the housing in the mill to shorten it. But i would rather change a torque convertor than do that.

Did you measure the distance from the starter housing to the ring gear to see if the bendix will still reach the ring gear if you add 1/4 inch?
