MF 30 Industrial Alternator compatibility

Hello.
I think the alternator is bad in my MF 30 industrial. I was hoping that you guys could direct me to a model I may could pick up at a local parts place that would be a compatible model. It is listed in the agco parts book as "508545M92".

My manual has it listed as Delco Remy model "1100805".

Any help would be appreciated.

A search for that Delco alternator indicates that it is a 10DN with external regulator. If so, you don't know if you have a bad alternator or bad external regulator.

Do yourself a favor and get a Delco 10SI internal regulated 3 wire alternator. It should be much cheaper and much more reliable. You should be able to do a search on how to adapt the wiring.

The alternator he is talking about would need to be rewire things a bit. Not hard to do if one know what and how which I can explain if you need. What you want is an alternator off a 1980 Chevy pickup no power anything and no AC. O'Reilly's auto parts will have them for around $45 plus your core.
 

Ok. I'm going to need some help apparently. I purchased a 7127-3av alternator. It has an internal regulator. I was under the impression and was told by the guy at the parts place that once bolted up and the tractor running I would be able to use tester and find where it was producing around 14 volts. I am not getting 14 volts from anywhere when the tractor is running. Can you please explain what I'm missing? Thanks so much!
 
If it is a Delco 10si like you where told about there should be a 2 wire plug and a charge stud. The plug has #1 an #2 marked on the alternator. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud and the #1 wire goes to the ignition switch and is the excite wire. If it does not get excited it will NEVER charge
 
See if this matches what you have. You could also tape off or remove wire to #3 pin on old regulator and loop #2 on new alternator down to output stud.

You must have voltage to #1 pin on new alternator to start it to charge. If you do not have indicator light in line to #1 pin, add a diode (marked band toward alternator)or lamp or the engine may continue to run when switch is turned off.

Ok. So, if I am understanding correctly, There must be 12v at pin 1 on alternator. Then I could run a wire from pin two to the charge post. This will cause it to charge?

I'm a little confused, because the wire currently connected to the charge post goes directly back to the battery. So, if I connect a wire from pin 2 to the charge post it will have 12+v too. If I connect 12v to pin one it will also have 12v. So they will all basically be connected together? Am I missing something?

If you have the alternator I told you about it is a 3 wire set up. The wire from the charge post can run to the battery or the amp gauge if you have one. It will also have a 2 wire plug. That is marked with a #1 and #2. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud and that is the sensing wire which tells the alternator how charged the battery is. The #1 wire is the excite wire which turns in the alternator and should be hooked to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on. You may need a diode or resister in line with that #1 wire or you may not e able to shut if off due to alternator feed back. I think I have it working, but I'm not sure I did it the same way...

I connected pin 1 to the stud on alternator and post 2 to the ignition. It seems to be working. To shut engine off, it has fuel cut off. So the engine will cut off. I appreciate all of the help!!!

You have #1 and #2 reversed. #2 can connect to any battery source. Either looped to output or using wire back to battery should work ok.

Please do not depend on turning off fuel to get it to shut down. If you are ever in an emergency there will be no time to get to the shut off or to burn fuel out of carburetor.

This is a diesel engine. If I'm not mistaken that is the intended way to shut it off. The key will only cut it off on mine by running it out of fuel because I have an electric fuel pump.

It will being working as you have it hooked up but not correctly and it will drain the battery and burn out the alternator pretty fast due to the fact the alternator will be excited at all times and that will cause both problems. The #1 wire needs to be hooked to the ignition switch and the #2 to the charge stud
 

Ok, i will change it. I thought I tried it this way and it wasn't showing a ~14v when the engine was running, but I will reverse the wiring and see if it is working.
