Power Steering Question

The leak at the steering is significant. based on my reading, it seems a hit or miss with a fair amount of time spent gaining access. If that is true then I would like to postpone dealing with it. I would like to get some work done on our property before winter hits. I will assume a 202 can't run without the PS pump connected or the drive to it removed. For a temporary work-a-round, can I go from pump output to pump input and bypass everything else?
Thank you

For better or worse, I combined the 2 PS hoses which now go from input to output side of the pump bypassing the steering column. Later today I will get a feel for the assistance of the power steering. I don't think it was doing much to start with. Hoping I can live without it until the middle of winter.

Just about all the power steering systems on the 202, 35, 135, that I came across either barely worked, or didn't work at all (its just very old not very good design, even the ones with ps).

Good info pt...thank you.
I want a good looking well operating work tractor. Sure I would love it to be all original and functioning but my bankroll has limits and it wasn't purchased as a restoration project.
So maybe no point trying to make the original PS work? Maybe try to go for a whole different system and keep the old parts in storage just in case.

I usually have a 3 point, 84" Woods rotary mower on the back of my 135. It's a fairly heavy mower, with the tail wheel on the ground the tractor steers pretty easy.

Sometimes it's actually cheaper, once the smoke clears, to go aftermarket with the power steering. Using it with the PS bypassed and heavy loads on the loader is not only very difficult to steer, you may also end up tearing up the recirculating ball screw in the steering box..........ask me how I know!
Here is my solution...

Inno's deal is a inexpensive way to get hydrostatic steering. This is the winter time project for my 135 (should be interesting).

Should also work very nicely!!
I was lucky and found my Char-Lynn control valve used on ebay along with a few lengths of hose and the shaft etc. But I think it's due for a rebuild soon, sometimes when you turn the wheel nothing happens! Good thing it's not a fast machine.
