MF 275 PTO Issue

I'm going to drive out and look at a Massey 275 that I've seen for sale. Near as I can tell from the description it has a manual
transmission and a 2 stage clutch. The owner says the PTO grinds when he tries to engage it with the engine running. He turns off the
engine, engages the the PTO and it works fine. It disengages when he presses in the clutch. From what I've learned on this site, I think
that it's probably either a clutch that needs adjustment or replacement. I'm okay with that but is there anything else that's more serious
that I should be looking for. Many Thanks!

As ptfarmer mentioned, may just need adjustments. Try setting the three PTO release bolts inside to .080 inch. They can be reached through the bottom plate hole. Then the clutch shaft clamp release clearance can be set outside. Once both are done if the PTO is working right it should stop. If it still drags and shifts hard, it MAY be like the 275 I had a few years back. After ALL adjustments were done it still would not release. After a split and clutch assembly tear down the PTO pressure plate was found to be cracked. After installing a new plate clutch worked fine.
