parts change

I have a MF 202 industrial and have a chance to buy a MF 40 with a backhoe and FE loader on it for scrap price about $1.15 a pound. it's said to have engine problems which I really didn't care about anyway, there are many other parts that I could use someday as parts are getting scarce. many parts look the same like the Alt, the Hy pump and the controls, trans, rear end, wheels.. hundreds of dollars worth of parts.. Has anyone here ever inter changed any of these parts? I could find out by spending a fews days with the parts books but am looking to save some time.

$1.15 per pound I would not call scrape price since a machine like tat is going to be well over 4000lbs. Shoot last I heard scrape was going for around $100 a ton which is 20 cents per pound

I have swapped out parts between different models to make one good, running tractor. Does the 40 have the 3 cylinder Perkins, or the 4 cylinder Perkins (a 40B would have the 4 cylinder Perkins).

sorry I meant 1.15 per hundred, uncleaned scrap steel is about 1.25 now, I got it for $525.00, just the hydraulic pump, if you can find one is more than that.

actually, I'm not too sure which engine is in it, I was just so happy and excited that the guy would sell it whole for junk price that I didn't want to show it. Most people would have parted it out, like I really need the hydraulic pump and oil cooler, that's my money right there, the rest is all gravy. I bought it this morning before he changed his mind and my wife was half asleep.. $525.00 and he's delivering it. I figure with the hoe and FE loader and cab I paid about .65 a pd. I would have paid double if I had to

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I gave $750 for a 204 Workbull with forklift conversion. It had been sitting for probably 20 years or more but I was able to get it running within an hour or so and aside from a few things, it's all functional. I used it to lift the cab off a truck a couple days ago.
