MF4 Manufacture Dates

Hi
I have been trying to date my MF40 as I see many others have.
The MF40 is Australian manufacture and I have so far come up with Year of manufacture 1979 based on the Perkins engine serial numbers.
Tractor serial = # 865195
Loader serial = #2780 (34)
Backhoe Serial = #2129
Casting on diff/trans = 1664 511 MIC & obscured 11 5 9
Engine
CE209371158655SF
CE = D3-152
Build #209371
Serial Number= 158655
Country of manufacture S = India
Year of manufacture F = 1979
Lucas starter motor dated 1979
Engine sump front bottom casting number 37172400/3
Not sure how to decipher some of the data but this is my best guess?
Now's the big buts, isn't 1974 the last of the D3-152 engines in the MF40, and the loaders 34 to 34A?
Best Regards
Burgs

From the information I have the last year of the MF40 was 1975, the 1975 year model starting serial number was 842272. The Perkins 3.152 was still being made in 1979 so the original engine could have been swapped out for a newer one.

Hi PTF
Yes engine replacement is the only thing I could think of.
My assumption now is that it is a late 1975, but the serial numbers still don't add up.
From a list I found (on the forum?) 1975--842272--9A 207681 and there is a MF40 on ebay Australia with serial number 843886 that is advertised with a date of 1975, this corresponds to the list from the forum, but my 865195 is well after that number 865195-843886 = 20309 units
Year Ser. # #units/year
1969 -- 836912
1970 -- 838138 = 1226
1971 -- 839413 = 1275
1972 -- 840280 = 867
1973 -- 841073 = 793
1974 -- 841787 = 714
1975 -- 842272 = 485
Aus, SA Unit
1975 -- 843886 = 1614 High #
Aus My Unit
197X -- 865195 = 22923 units since start of 1975.
The serial number list looks okay until 1975 from there it goes pear shape !
So my last assumption is that MF must have had a strange serial number system or Australia MF serial numbers are different at the very least?

MF didn't seem to keep to keep very good track of serial numbers. The US made 40's the serial used the 9A prefix. The other two places that manufactured the 40's used the serial numbers I provided, but those numbers may not be completely correct.
