I have a seal leaking on my ram. I know it's probably basic stuff but I have never had one apart. The shaft is fine, no nicks, rust etc.. Is this something I can do myself? Is the seal universal, can I order one in advance? It's a MF loader, tractor is a 1974 MF40 anyone have a seal part number?

I believe your loader may be a 32 or 34 Massey loader. Can you find anything on the serial number plates? You will also need to find the cylinder
number, stamped somewhere on the cylinder barrel. Then you should be able to find a seal or seal kit in advance of the repair.

Hi,
First of all you will need to see exactly how the hub is retained
in the cylinder. from what I can see in your photo it looks as if
you might have to remove a retaining wire which holds the hub in.
Look for a hole about 1/4" diameter in the cylinder about one inch
from the top end. If it has one the wire will come out through here
by turning the hub. It maybe that it has a plain internal circlip
in the end. If so that is easier to remove.
With the rod out you will either need to undo the nut on the bottom
end (if fitted) or knock the pin out (common types) to remove the
hub. The hub may also pass over the top end of the rod. If so make
sure that there no burrs to damage the new seals on refitment.

Finally got out to my property and got some photos. I could not find anything stamped on the barrel, need to clean the paint off maybe. Also didn't see any pins, holes or way to get it apart.

Hey thanks a bunch! I wiped it off some today and found numbers, underneath at the bottom of course. Also found the hole near the top. Can't quite make out the numbers, have to go back...

No problem! Hope you get it all repaired before winter sets in!

I have to rebuild my curl cylinder (single) at some point, but I'm going to wait for warmer weather before I take it apart.

Finally got a good picture of the lift numbers. Looks like I need the top kit in the parts breakdown above, which is available on Ebay for $70. Assume I need the whole kit? Somewhere else I should be buying it?

Check with your local hydraulic supply shop, if you have one, and also get a quote from your local AGCO dealer. You just might get a better price from a hydraulic shop, or at least save on shipping costs.
