Alternator not charging

I have a 1965 MF135, GA's Perkins engine. It has an alternator not charging. Alternator checks good. Everything I find shows it came with a
generator. It has external voltage regulator. Changing external voltage regulator does not help. I think it has a wiring harnes for generator and
someone stuck an alternator on it. I am not sure how to proceed. Do I get a new wiring harness for one with an alternator? Any suggestions
would be appreciated on how to proceed. Thanks.

If it where me I would stick a Delco 10SI on it. An alternator like the one on a Chevy pickup. 1980 no power any thing no AC. Easy 3 wire hook up and built in VR so easy to wire up

Take a Lineman's Pliers, cut and remove the system you have:

Install a ONE wire alternator as per pictures:

If you ask 100 tractor owners of their rendition of "Alternator Conversion", you may receive 100 renditions, ALL with very good merits.

I choose a one wire alternator, as the pulley sizes are such that the engine has to operate, only at 725 RPM to see charging. Here is a ONE wire 12 Volt Alternator Negative ground:

Purchased from YT Tractor Site:

One and only one wire is ran to one side of Amp meter:

Other connector on Amp meter is ran to and connected to Positive supply from BATTERY at Starter:

Three cylinder Perkins Diesel:

I used a Lineman's pliers, removed all the old / original faulty charging circuit wiring and Voltage regulator:

Anything above 725 Engine RPM Alternator operates PERFECTLY:

MF FE-35 X

Did you disconnect external voltage regulator? That is my main question? Any other old wiring disconnected? Not sure what to do with that? Thanks

*****PLEASE NOTE:

I swapped out a Generator on my 1963 MF FE 35 X Diesel, that has NO FUEL gauge or any other pressure sensor type PRESSURE to ELECTRICAL TRANSDUCERS.

I used a Lineman's Pliers, cut off each wire / conductor from its source that was attached to the VOLTAGE REGULATOR.

Then I placed the Voltage regulator and all connecting wires to and from the Voltage regulator in the Dumpster:

I would believe the Electrical wiring on a MF 135 is different than a MF FE 35 X Diesel?

The PICTURE of the MF 135 from the "YT" Archives, I believe was posted by "ptfarmer"

On a 1 wire you just hook it to the amp gauge and all the other old wires from the charging system can be removed. But many 1 wire set up need a high RPM to self excite. Me I NEVER use them because they can be iffy at best since they are modified Delco 10SI 3 wire alternators. Me I use the Delco 10SI on my machines and any time I convert one to 12 volts and I have done a good many over the years

The Delco 10SI is like what would be on a 1980 Chevy pickup. No AC no power windows etc. Then to wire it up there is a 2 wire plug you would need to buy. It is marked 1 and 2. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud and the wire from the charge stud goes to the amp gauge. The #1 wire goes to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on. On many I just run the wire to the ignition side of the coil. But in many cases one has to have a light bulb or diode or a ballast resister in line of the #1 wire or you cannot shut the engine off. But all in all easy to wire up

Is it an alternator with an external regulator, or old regulator left behind when generator was removed. Picture of alternator and regulator would help.

I agree with Old, if it were mine I would remove alternator and regulator and replace with Delco 3 wire alternator with internal regulator.
