Hello

My 135 has just started to disengage the pto while slashing.

I engage the pto and the slasher works, it is not till I notice the grass is uncut that I realize the problem.

I have noticed the oil level is low and will replace oil.

Could low oil level be the problem or is there something more serious.

Any help appreciated

Regards
Don

Does your tractor have live pto, you have to push the clutch pedal all the way down to engage the pto. Or do you have independent pto, you can engage it without using the clutch pedal.

Hello

I push the clutch all the way down

When I release clutch part way pto will engage, when I release further gears will engage

The pto lever neutral is between two settings, you move lever forward to engage ground speed (pto will spin as fast as wheels rotate)

When you move lever to rear to engage (pto will spin on engine revs)

The low oil which is not desirable wouldn't cause that. I would first look at the pto lever goes on the shaft. There is a little roll pin that holds them together, that roll pin could be bending/breaking, and not allowing it to engage the pto gear enough so it lets it slide out of gear. When you engage the pto you should feel the detent lock the lever into place. Engage the pto, and feel how much effort it takes to move the lever forward.

Hello

Thanks for the advice, I have checked the roll pin and all appears secure.

Without the tractor running I tried to engage the pto, However there appears to be something preventing this, and a metallic sound is heard.
I can move the PTO lever forward to ground & back to neutral with no worries.

With the engine off, brakes locked, clutch pedal fully depressed with the pto lever in the neutral position have someone slowly turn the pto shaft on the back of the tractor, and try engage to pto to see if it will go in. When the clutch pedal is depressed, and if the pto engages the person turning the pto shaft should still be able to turn the shaft. You should feel the dent lock the lever in place so it stays engaged.

Hello ptfarmer

thanks for your suggestions.
Today. when manually turning PTO as suggested it engages.
There were 2 distinctive clicks.
With motor off and clutch out PTO shaft cannot turn
so I went 1 step further and started tractor with PTO engaged to slasher.
Then I operated for at least 15 minutes with no issues, however, once PTO was disengaged whilst tractor running PTO would not engage again.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

On the bottom of the bell housing there should a plate with 4 bolts, remove the plate, and you can see the clutch. There is 3 bolts to adjust, this is done with the clutch pedal is up. You want about .080"-.090" clearance between the top of the bolt head, and the plate. It has a jam nut to lock the bolt in place after you adjust the clearance.

If the clearance is good another possibility is that the throw out bearing is moving too far causing the clutch release arms to contact the rivets on the clutch You can check this by not pushing the clutch pedal down all the way to the floor board, and try to engage the pto, if it doesn't grind, and you can feel, or and hear the click what you can do is add some more free play to the clutch pedal so the release fingers won't contact the rivets on the clutch disk, or not push the pedal all the way down (I usually put more free play in the clutch pedal).
