Remote Starter ?

I have one of those push button starters for doing tune up work. Push button on one end and two big alligator clamps on the other end. Can someone please tell me where to hook this thing up to make it jog over my Z134 engine on my MF202. I want to do this to get my points open and on the dist. cam for setting.

No. 14 is the solonoid in the picture.

Hi
I have never used one of those switches on a gas motor they can be a pain doing valves on a diesel tractor and they need fine tuning by hand for the right spot. it could be a job to hit that switch and get those points to stop exactly where you need them on the cam. I would just make sure it's out of gear and parked safely so it cant roll while you mess with it for the safety guys out there.

Then turn the engine by hand using the cooling fan and fan belt, You might have to add tension to the belt with the other hand to get it to turn without slipping the belt. Then you can fine tune your points and cam position precisely in the full open position to set the gap. Regards Robert

I just turn the engine by hand using the fan, if the belts tight enough you can turn the engine over. It's much easier to get the points right on the lobe in the distributor.

Yeah, I do that on my 8N. But the distributor is on the same side that is the easiest to push on the belt while turning the fan.

On the MF202 not so easy.

I haven't really looked into the dist. on the 202 yet. I ordered a replacement set of points but they were made in China and look pretty cheap. That's why I'm trying to find a number for something like Bluestreak or Echlin points.

"Try the 2 big terminals on the solenoid."

That will certainly let the smoke out of the remote starter button in a hurry!

To the O.P.... does the solenoid have one or two small terminals?

If so, is one "hot" as long as the key switch is in the on/run position?

(I'm not sure how the neutral safety switch is wired.)
