Strange noise

I have a whining noise that stops when the 2 stage clutch is depressed all the way. Any suggestions as to what to check first?
MF 35 deluxe gas with multi power.

Noise is still present when clutch is halfway down and stops when it goes all the way. Could it be from the hydraulic pump or the multi power pump? Would the clutch throw out bearing make a whining noise if it is bad?
Tractor is new to me so I don't know its history. I would really like to look at and listen to someone else's 35. If you happen to have one and live in southern Illinois I would love to come visit.
 
Most likely the Multi-Power pump drive. When in High range you will here a faint clicking sound from the over running low one way jaw clutch too, that's normal..
 
Hi,
I would agree with Dieseltech that the drive to the MP pump is a
strong possibility. There is an idler gear between the MP pump and
the Ferguson pump. If the bearing is worn or the teeth are worn as
they well may be on a tractor of this age this will create a whining
noise. This will of course stop when the clutch pedal is fully
pressed and the drive disconnected.

Check the quadrant for the 3 point lift control to make sure it is not all the way back in constant pumping position. that will make a noise as the hydraulic relief valve is bypassing. this will also cause overheating the hyd oil and ruin the relief valve.
 
I replaced the main hydraulic pump, multipower pump, along with the multipower pump gears, idler included on my 175 a couple years ago and it makes the same noise. I think its just the sound of straight cut gears used on the multipower pump drive system. Hopefully its normal!
 
Think of a manual transmission car (I never really took notice on an automatic, though they may do it too).

Reverse gear always whines. Straight cut gears are always louder. Dog boxes in rally cars do the same thing.
