What is this thing?

My nephew picked up this thing in his travels. I presume it for making a single furrow. Anyone know what it's called or who might have made it? It's very heavy and well made.

The two narrow pieces look like they need to be on the other side of those "V" pieces for the top link. They are just held on with a big bolt. I imagine that the furrower type blade goes toward the tractor.

It's usually called a 'middle buster'. Yes, pointy end will be almost under the seat. I suppose in beach sand it will go the other way...
Just the ticket for potatoes. Some people who have their ducks in a row can plant in the first trench, then use half the blade twice to cover them, then use it to dig them back up. it is useful for a rough trench for a pipe or draining, who knows where it's made, you might find a tag. Heck Tractor Supply sells em! So if he owns it, oil the blade, paint the rest. And this spring , buy a bag of seed potatoes....

Thanks, I confused sub soiler with middle buster. I never actually saw one with that furrow type blade. But after looking at one on TSC, I see now that the big 6" wide shaft goes verticle. Now I get how it works. My nephew gave it to me, so I guess I'll give it a try next time I take my box blade off. I was kind of picturing it with that 6" shaft vertical and trying to figure how that blade was supposed to work.

I would assume the upright is made that way so if you are backing up, it will allow the plow to move toward the tractor and not dig in the ground

I have two of these type plows, one a ditcher or tator plow, for some reason it was not made with a sheer bolt, the other a sub soiler with sheer bolt.

both have been useful over the years, but not high usage tools,
