555 water pump pulley removal

Hey fellas

Wondering how it comes off. Parts manual shows a set screw. This pulley has none. Also this pulley looks longer that the one shown in the book.

Some Continental water pumps use press on pulleys. Use two fan bolt holes on a cross beam puller to remove it. DON'T pull or press near the flange as it WILL break there.

Thanks for the reply Dieseltech

I don't plan to remove the pump. Was just wanting to get the pulley off to clean it and prep the surface. So to reinstall would just tap it back on with a hammer?

NO HAMMER! The pump must be off engine, and pulley pressed on as it will go on hard. Use spacer on the press plate that clears the impeller, have the shaft rear set on the spacer. Best right down the distance between the pulley and pump housing BEFORE pulley is removed, then press the pulley back on to the same dimension. That's how it was done when I worked for the MF dealer years ago. Used to have to do lots of 35, 50, and 65 models the same way.

Yeah that's weird. Mine is 3-3/4" high. Yours looks like the one pictured in the parts manual. Does yours have the set screw? I wonder why they would have used two different pulleys?

Mine was used with the power steering setup. The set screw is only used on the hub underneath not the pulley. I'll check another pulley later today and see if the height is the same.
