Bought F40 with cracked rock shaft. Replacing and found the crack to be worst than I thought. See picture. Will this crack give problem leaking oil? Also I have parts tractor with good differential housing. If I remove coupling between transmission and differential will it come apart when I remove bolts? I don't want to but I can and I don't want oil seeping out crack. What is your advice?
Thanks Mickey

What a piece of junk. I bet you bought that up in Oklahoma... you can see it ain't Texas quality... I bet is was hot rodded to burn vaporized rocket fuel. That would cause that crack. So would a bad safety valve I suppose.
Yeah, i bet Dieseltech will tell ya if you got another case, change it out before you end up sitting on the ground... with a rotating PTO drive for a saddle horn... hate to say it... but I seen more cracks like that than I'd like to admit... like the Z129 blocks I guess....

Drain the oil first!! LOL, Sorry, I couldn't resist that. Are you changing the casting only, or maybe a complete rear end with one you swiped from Tony? Not a bad job, just keep the housings parallel so the shafts will mesh OK..

Found one in Hugo OK--MH50 just setting there and no one around. Looks like no one for months. Easy pick. LOL I have complete rear end and transmission. Planing to remove transmission and use one that's on(new) tractor. I know it's good not sure about parts tractor. Never drove it.

Watch out at that dump in Hugo. There is a blood thirsty guard armadillo wandering around all that junk...
I changed those cases a couple times. a lot easier than lining up a clutch, but best to have the manual and all your jacks right there with you. And Shiner. A box of cold Shiner too.
