Continental Z134 valve question

I'm partially rebuilding the Z134 gas engine in my 30B (approximately a MF135). New pistons, rings, gaskets, and valves.

The new intake valves look just like the old ones. I probably should have gotten new valve stem lash caps, but the old ones fit fine and will get me started.

But the new exhaust valves are different than the old ones. The old ones had a hole in the top of the stem and a lash cap that resembles a thumbtack that fits in the hole.

The new exhaust valves don't have that hole, and their stems are noticeably longer than the intake valves. They sit at about the same height as the intake valves with the caps installed.

What should I be doing about caps for the new exhaust vales?

Pretty much the same engine, the new valves are supposed to be harder steel, and shouldn't require the lash caps. If you ran the old "softer" valves without the lash caps the top of the valve stem would mushroom. The new valves should be just as long as the old valves with the lash caps.

Thank you ptfarmer. I was hoping for that answer. It makes life a lot easier.

And the new exhaust valves are the same height as the intake valves with lash caps.
