MF65 spin out rims

Well I got brave and decided that I want to narrow up the 65 4 inches. Been soaking the clamps with PB and got out my 1/2 inch square socket and found that the heads are 17/32. I measured several and all are the same size. That socket worked fine on my 180. So do I need to buy a special tool from MF?

If the block eccentrics have not been moved recently I'll bet each one will be rusted fast, like my 85D wheels were. Had to remove all the block bolts, and with the wheel laid down knock the center out. Then each block can be freed up so they will move again.

Hi,
Just checked the UK and European parts book for the 65 but no PAVT (Power Assisted Variable Track) are listed. It is possible that the head sizes are BSW, (British Standard Whitworth) and may fit a 5/16 or 3/8" spanner. Whilst BSW related mainly to threads it had its own bolt head and nut sizes. A bi-hexagon socket may be suitable but due to the small size of the bolt you are very likely to take the corners off it they are really seized. If you can't find a suitable socket why don't you make one from a piece of 1/2" or 5/8" plate. Drill a hole of the root size and using a small square file open the 'square' until it fits. You could then weld it to an old socket....and you'll always have it.

The blocks I have a 12 point 15MM socket fits, 8 point 15mm should work too. Also have an 8 point Snap On 9/16, but it fits loose. I'll still bet NONE of the eccentrics will move IF they have not been turned in years. I had an 85 that all the square drives were broken off, and 5/8 inch hex nuts were welded on each one. Looked goofy, but they turned OK.

Maybe I better just leave it be. It is not hurting anything the way it is. It was no problem on the 180 I had so maybe they had been moved before on that. If I remember right they were made a little different on that too. Don't need to start any more problems.
