MF35 battery

I have FE35 with the Standard diesel.
When I try to start it the motor won't turn over.
It tries but just slowly turns.
The battery is old but fully charged.
So I jump started it with the car and still the motor won't turn over, again just slowly turning.

The car battery is new and has CCA 810 rating.

So is it just the battery or maybe the actual starter?

The starter could need a rebuild, worn out brushes, bushing(s), bearing(s), etc. As hard as the 23C diesel is hard to start on a good day I would almost bet the starter needs some help along with clean terminals, and good battery cables.

Simply pull the battery out and take it into a n auto parts tore and have it load tested. Most will do it for free. If it check bad well you know where the problem is. If it test good then check connections and maybe take the starter and have it check again cost is likely to be free

Times two on the Earth cable , try circumventing it with a jumper lead direct to the starter .
Of course make sure the tractor is out of gear or disconnect the coil so it doesn't run you over

Thanks all,
I had the earth wire connected to the bottom starter bolt and moved it up to the middle bolt which has a nut.
There seems to be a cut out for the earth terminal there.

Anyway now it turns over, still slow, my battery is not too good.
With a jumper it turns over.

"borrow" the battery from your truck and put it in the tractor as a test. Keep in mind too that if your battery cables are too small in diameter/gauge that will also give slow cranking. Crank it for about 15 seconds and see if the cables get hot. If they do then they are too small.
