MF135 Diesel Fuel Consumption?

After this last hurricane in Florida hit it got me thinking about generators. Harbor Freight has what appears to be a decent generator that runs off the PTO. Any idea how much fuel a Perkins diesel A3.152 would consume per hour running something like a generator? The specs say the generator is designed to be powered at 540 RPM.

Just a thought.

It would be idle or low speed so I would think it wouldn't use much. They didn't use much over a gallon per hour pulling 2 or 3 bottom breaking plow.Be cheap if you didn't have electricity.

My gas version of the same Perkins burns less than a US gallon an hour, more like 3 quarts- mowing at 540 PTO. So a diesel one? Less, much less than 3 quarts an hour if she's in good shape. Some stationaries use more than that.

I have a PTO GEN set on my MF FE 35X A3.152 Perkins Diesel:

Had Gen set operating last week for five hours (pubic utility was off line due to wind storm)....460 PTO RPM is 60 Cycles:

Unable to share with you the Size of the load that was on Gen Set......Engine used 1/2 gallon of Diesel / hour:

Thanks for the replies. Since I have a MF135 and a MF203 I think this PTO generator is the way to go. Odd why the Nebraska test shows around 2 gallons per hour, but people seem to observe much better numbers than that.

I find the Nebraska test numbers odd also.

It doesn't matter much what rpm the pto or engine runs for that matter. Fuel consumption is based on load. Put that Tractor to work using all 38 hp and I will bet you will use close to 2 gallons per hour. Drive down the road with no load, you won't use half a gallon per hour. Ben
