Thinking about getting one of those Buggy style 3bow tops for My 1964 MF 35

Anyone got one?

What do you think about it
Does It do a good job of providing shade
Do they fold back
Did you get the 40 or 48 inch top
Did you attach to the Fender or the axle ?

Brand?

Pics would be great !

Thanks

My brother had a 3 bow buggy top, and it lasted a long time, but the 5 bow would handle more abuse than the 3 bow. We had to repair the 3 bow a couple of times before it finally came off, vibrating/shaking fenders does the most damage.

Since yesterdays tractor sells parts the forum will block links to other known parts sites.

Ok ,I will try to google a 5 Bow and see what it looks like.

Well I tried several different searches and it appears that everyone is out of stock
Just as well I suppose as the price on the 3 bows are already fairly high.

Seeing as How my use will be to just keep sun off of me while I am Bush hogging in Low 3rd or Low 4th I may just find me a heavier duty than normal umbrella and affix it to the back of the seat .

I made this out of some tubing, and a old golf cart top. If you have the ability its worth doing, I probably have about $15.00 in it.

There is a used 5 bow on ebay (looks like the fabric is torn) starting bid is $200.00 no bids on it yet. The 5 bows seem to be a rare bird these days, but with all the newer tractor having rops on them you can't use the buggy type. Even the 3 bows new on ebay (with a selection of different color canopies) are kind of expensive for what they are.

Yes I had one on a MF50, and have the ripped out holes in the fenders to prove it. Don't leave it out in the wind.
Combination of vibration and wind....not good. Metal fatigue.

Looks good
Did you attach to the axles ?
When you get the time would you mind posting close up pics of you attachments?

Thanks

When you mount on fenders use large diameter flat washers under bolt heads and you won't have that problem.

I mounted it to the fenders since it was rush job so I wouldn't get cooked. If I would have had the time I would have also mounted it to the axle housings. I used three bolts per side, and I've had to reweld the upper mounting tab on the left hand side twice that uses a single bolt (it uses two bolts per side where it bolts lower down on the fenders). So its holding up pretty good for a rush job. Once the weather cools down, and I have the time I'm going to make it look better, and add on some extra mounts so it will bolt to the axle housings also. I'll get a picture, or two of the mounting points this Saturday, and post them.

Try Heritage Farm Power they have a online web site. They have the buggy style top and have it in fender mount or axle mount.

They are not perfect by any means but not bad
The more I think about it the more it makes sense for me to just use a heavy duty umbrella attached to the back of the seat that I can remove when I want to .
Now to find a heavy duty umbrell that is reasonable priced !

Friend of mine down the road actually has a picnic table umbrella attached to his. I give him a hard time since it kind of looks like a mary poppins thing. :)

(quoted from post at 07:29:12 09/17/17) Did you end up shortening the base on that seat so you could move it back further?

Get my seats from tractor supply, didn't drill no new hole(s), and did not shorten the base, a complete bolt on (this one is on my MF2135).

The front bolt.

The rear bolt.

I have that same seat on mine too which is why i ask. Looks like you are even using the same holes. Do you find it feels like you are to far forward? Feels like i have to almost reach back to use the pedals and have to use the pads in front of the pedals for foot rests.

In the top picture the seat is slid all the way back to where it hits top cover, in the lower picture I slid the seat all the way forward just to show the rear bolt.
