I am thinking about getting a Spin on oil filter Kit for my1964 MF 35 with the Z134 Continental engine.

I see several offer the Kit
Any Preference as to which brand to buy ?

Buy the lowest price one you can find, as far as I can tell they are all the same quality. I've bought several with no problems with any of them.

Oil filter location is low on the side of this motor for a spin on oil filter,
If you stay out of the woods or any fields with small trees, example rotary cutting, you should be good to go,

Why change after 50 years of good service from current oil filter set up????

My 1957 D14 AC had a spin on oil filter, but it was located high up on the side of the motor,

Thanks for the input
All I can see I will be doing is Mowing and using to put in a Garden.
I have just got the tractor and I have never changed oil on it so I don't know what to expect.
I have read that the originals were sometime difficult to keep from leaking and that the spin on filters did a better job of oil filtration .
BUT I do not know if either statements I have read are true.
I would appreciate all input I can get on this matter as i dont mind spending money to get a better system but do not wish to spend money for no good reason.

Do the spin on conversion it will be fine. The oil filter on the 35's with the Perkins engine hangs down lower than the oil filter on the Z134. If you can damage a oil filter enough so that it looses all the oil, and the engine seizes up you shouldn't be on a tractor, or any other piece of equipment IMHO.

Well I am 57 and have had noticed throughout the years that I Have a Knack for being able to tear up a concrete block with a rubber hammer !

Regardless I can manage to refrain from damaging the oil filter .

What are the pros and cons of the spin on conversion
IYHO ?

All kidding aside, I have been able to sort of mess up spin on filters. I have come to believe you're s'posed to oil up the gasket real good, oil up the mating surface real good, oil up he threads, then just spin it on HAND SNUG, then a quarter turn more. That's it, for me. Not really bear down on it, just hand tight.

Yep, you oil up the gasket, and the threads then snug it down hand tight. After the engine heats, and cools the oil sticks the gasket to the engine (which is why its hard to get off when you change it).

One more thing, make sure it comes with the gasket and filter. Should be able to get it on flea bay for less than $30. I just bought one there. NAPA FILTER # IS 1460....Wix 51460.....Fram 2895
