1967 MF 135 Diesel Wont Start

We've owned this tractor since new and I've never had this trouble. It will turn over but it wont start. I've bled the fuel system and changed the air filter. It turns over but never starts. If i give it a quick shot of either it fires for a second but then just keeps turning over without firing. Any ideas? Thanks

Try starting Tractor in the same manner you always have, however, first open throttle fully open, loosen off all three fuel lines from the Main Fuel Pump (at fuel pump) to the Fuel Injectors, crank engine over on starter, verify if fuel is in fact present at out let of all three discharge ports on fuel pump while engine is turning over on Starter. NO fuel then NO start.

Bob....Owner operator MF FE 35 X 3 cylinder Perkins Diesel

Won't this put air back in the lines and cause me to have to re-bleed the system. A buddy told me to remove the air filter and using a spray bottle, spray diesel into the air intake. I tried that and it still didn't "hit". I figure that must mean its NOT a fuel issue. What else could it be?

When my MF 35 3 cylinder Perkins Diesel would not "Fire" I done as per my suggestion and found there was NO Diesel present at any of the FUEL connections on the PUMP. Inside the PUMP was a FAULT with the Mechanism that shuts the FUEL off with the SHUT off ROD on the DASH.

Bob..

I removed one of the lines from the pump to the injector and then turned the starter... no fuel is coming out. Does this mean my injector pump is bad? The fuell shut off knob that leads to from the dash to the pump seems to be working ok. Thanks.

Injection pump MAY have the metering valve and/or rotor plungers stuck, causing no fuel to the injectors. Worst case is the pump hydraulic head is seized. Just repaired a Case pump that had stuck parts from water in fuel, several parts stuck inside. Works fine on the stand after a complete tear down and cleaning.

How do I unstick the metering valve/rotor plunger?

You take it to a shop, or someone that specializes in injector pumps, have them go through it, and test it afterwards to make sure it works right.

DT is correct..
IF your handy w/ tools & your confident in your mechanical ability.. there are many videos on utube about
"leaking throttle shaft on CAV pumps".. that'll show you how to get the top cover off the pump..
The metering valve may be stuck in the shut off position.. happens ALL THE TIME to people that don't move the shut off knob/cable to the run position, after shut down.. BUT the MAIN culprit is dirty fuel..
IF your not confident>> Take it to a fuel injection shop..

My FE35, 4 cyl diesel had similar problems. There is a small 'wire basket fuel filter' where the fuel pipe from the filter enters
the injector pump. It is not mentioned in the manual or parts book. When I cleaned it out, the problem was solved. Luckily, I was
told of its existence by an old and experienced tractor mechanic.
