MF 35 Oil Pressure Questions

On the Tractor I recently got(1964 MF 35 with Z134 engine)I see that the Oil Pressure Gauge goes from 0 to 18-20 immediately after starting and it makes no difference whether I am at idle or with the engine revved up to more than 3/4 throttle(I dont know the RPMS as none of the Gauges work other than the temp Gauge and oil Pressure gauge)and Maybe none of the Gauges !!
The pressure fluctuates between 18-20.Is this a sign that the gauge does not work or another issue ??

A general rule of thumb is a minimum of 10 psi per 1000 rpms. The Continental Z engines do not have the best, and big enough oil pump IMHO. If the engine has some sort of knock coming from it, it's best to find out where the noise is coming from now before any possible engine damage happens. With the Continental you can drop the oil pan without completely splitting the tractor

I will listen more closely but as of now I dont hear any knock.
Is there anyway around the Oil pump issue you talk about?

Specs I see say no lower than 15psi and 20 to 30 psi at 2200 rpm.

I would go with a 15w40 diesel oil like shell rotella
new filter from napa or wix or MF, (do not go cheap on the filter). also does the filter canister housing still have the spring and washer inside that keeps the filter pressed against the motor block, check to see if you tractor still uses this system.

also if you are still worried, bolt in a new temporary oil pressure gauge and check the pressure reading.
need to be a 50 or 60 pound gauge so 20 to 30 pds reads in the middle of the gauge

remember: the fastest way to ruin a good engine is lack of oil pressure, second fastest is letting it get to hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a thought....I built my MF35 about ten or so years ago and was very disappointed with low oil pressure 9around 10 to 15). the engine sounded good and was a painted and pretty so I did not go back in to ck pump. long story made sort of short..i used tractor for ten years when oil pressure dropped to zero. engine sounded good when I killed switch so I got a oil pressure gauge off another tractor, hooked up, started the 35 and got 40 PSI. Seems all this time I had a bad gauge. Just my few cents but try a known good gauge before you despair about low pressure.
Good Luck!

Wellmaxx and Bob sound like good ideas
I dont know if the spring is still there as I haven't changed the oil yet.

What size it the oil pressure gauge as I am going to go to either an auto parts store or Walley World and get a new Gauge, then after i test it I am then going to try and get my hand in there to change the Gauge out and replace with the new one.
