MF 165 (1966) Hyd

Have a 1966 MF 165 Diesel and I have attached at MF 236 loader. Hooking the loader to the main Hyd system has not worked. Will have loader Hyd but no Hyd to the control arms in the back.
Talking with a few fellows, they suggested a front mount Hyd. pump, adapter, shaft, coupler and bracket, and run the Hyd. pump front mount for just the loader.
So, my question is where do I find this pump?, I understand the basic method of installing the shaft, and adapter to the pulley, but the bracket seems to be the mystery? Do I need to Make one?
So where do I order the pump, shaft, adapter, coupler etc..from?

Can you post a picture of the front of your machine? The older Massey 35's have a mounting boss on the front of the machine for an SAE type A hydraulic pump to bolt right on. I have a Massey 35 Utility, here's a picture of mine:

Basically, you're going to want to find out what gpm your loader control valves are good for, and size the pump to match them. I'd say in the realm (don't quote me on this) of 17gpm would be very good, but no less than 12gpm.

You can buy a pump at surplus center dot com. Make sure you look closely at the flow rate vs rpm that the rate is given. Example, you don't want a pump that flows 17gpm but only at 4000 rpm. You'd never use it to capacity.

Find something that's 17gpm/2500psi at PTO rpm (like 1000rpm to 1200rpm)

First picture will show you the crank adapter with the extended shaft to go through the axle pivot.

Second picture is how my machine came cobbled together when I bought it. I eliminated all that extra shaft length and the adapter bracket. That allowed me to locate my pump inside the loader frame so it's much more protected.

Lastpicture (with the random bolt sticking out) is the factory mounting location for SAE type A pump on a Massey 35. This location is where my pump is currently mounted.

(quoted from post at 17:48:36 08/29/17) i am not familiar with MF hydraulics...but does tractor have isolator valve??

If he's running it off the internal pump, then very likely yes. He can either use loader or 3pt hitch, but not both simultaneously. It's a rather clunky setup, a front mounted pump would be MUCH better.

Krteach: here are a few pics I just took of my hydraulic pump.

Not sure why my hydraulic pump pics didn't show up in my last post, hopefully they show here:

Ps- if not I'll post from a PC tomorrow.

I will also say that a front mounted pump is much better. If you want, you can even use the transmission of the tractor as your reservoir. It just takes a bit of fabrication and machine work. Wasn't a problem for me as I'm a machinist. I can try to get you some pictures of what I did, but photo bucket is holding my pictures hostage.

Donovan, I'd love to see that! My reservoir is in the loader frame, but I always like to see people's ingenuity!

Finally got to a PC- here are the pics I tried posting in my last two replies. This is how the hydraulic pump mounts on a Massey 35.

Also- if you look at the second picture I posted up above, I was told that bracket is a factory MF part, but it doesn't belong on my machine. My hydraulic pump used to be mounted on the OUTSIDE of the loader frame, very vulnerable to tumbling rocks, etc...
