MF 135 UK Sealed rear brakes, axle seal

I have just replaced the inner axle seal on 135uk with sealed braking style brakes. both seals are leaking oil out weep hole at base of brake housing. Does anyone know if seals are different on this model than other 135's? The hole keeps oil from going into the disc braking area.

Hi Galen,
In my 45 years with MFs I have never seen a UK 135 with sealed disc
brakes. A rare bird indeed. The parts page for the axle shaft set-up
may be wrong because as far as I can see it does not make the outer
bearing arrangement for the shaft clear. However the seals on either
side of the brake housing are shown. It is a very different system to
the 165 for example with dry brakes. The seals, outer seal for the
sealed system 881021M93 and inner housing seal 897198M1 are very
different to the normal single brake system which has the shoes
outboard. Clearly there should be no leak from a new seal if it has
been fitted correctly and is a good 'seal' fit on a shaft in good
condition. I believe that what may have happened during the rebuild
is that the garter spring on the seal has become dislodged and now
the seal is only exerting light pressure on the shaft. It is very
easy to do as you try to guide the heavy axle shaft home.
Unfortunately there is no way to check it other than to remove the
axle housing. Ensure that the seal is fitted correct way round. It is
likely to be a double seal and the dust shield should be fitted
towards the brake discs. This means that the garter spring for the
oil lip seal would normally be toward the outer end of the shaft.
The numbers given are from the UK European parts book so please check
if there are any differences for the US ones.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for reply. ill check when i revisit seal. I remember a double seal with a whole in outside metal housing, i figured it was a tattle tail to let you know when seal was compromised. should hole in seal be aligned with port in axle housing? (that's the way i installed it)

pulled shafts, garter spring still in place. installed speedy sleeve on shaft and one new double seal. reinstalled.. problem fixed. thanks for help.
