Ground drive pto uses

Read the previous about thread/post about ground drive pto problems, I never use the ground drive pto so I thought I would ask a dumb question. When do you need ground drive pto and what implements would be used in ground drive?

There was a lister planter that used it to drive the boxes. Then there was the hay rake. What else could there have been from the factory? I know some people have made powered carts and logging arches out of properly-geared truck rears that use the ground pto to give the tractor a kind of rear-wheel assist.

another not sanctioned by Ferguson engineers.

if the corn picker clogs up, you can place pto in ground speed and back up a short distance, this will turn the pto in reverse and many times unclog the picker.

do not think this will work with a baler as it might get it out of time.

also jack one rear wheel up off the ground, hole brake on other wheel, place in reverse gear and slowly let out on clutch, it will unscrew a hung up post hole digger.
the auger will unscrew its way right out of the ground, I have tried this, it works.

I believe it can also be used to drive a trailer.

I know someone who was spreading muck in a field a few miles from the farm.
He accidentally put the pto in ground speed and when he hot to the field the muckspreader was empty!

The old fertilizer buggies used to use ground pto. As the newer tractors did away with ground pto the newer fertilizer buggies use a wheel of some sort that you engage against one of the tires on the buggy for ground pto.

I guess I am one of the few folks that still uses the ground drive PTO. Use it on my 165D with the Ferguson DEO-20 3pt hay rake. Rake was designed for ground drive, works great in hilly areas and when you need to make tight turns at end of windrows. Made back in 50's or so. Still working like new, after a few weld spots no worries. Cheers.

I use it for post hole auger "reverse" Main reason the 3pt PTO auger goes on the MF....
